It began with vessels clinging awkwardly from clay, which had a practical purpose for storing liquids and products, and still continues in all possible forms, purposes and materials. But the most valued people of the vase, of course, were and remain those made of precious metals, decorated with gems or entirely carved out of natural stones. And the purpose of such precious vessels is determined by them to become.
The main thing in the definition of a vase, which people often forget about, when, for example, they give a vase as a gift, is not so much a beautiful decoration or material (although this is also important) as an elegant form. Then the vase becomes a vase, not just a vessel, and it is pleasant to look at it – and this will be one of its destinations. Today, vases are used mainly to put flowers in them – it is practical, but for this purpose you can use any container, so the general impression remains: how the flowers look in a vase, and how the vase looks in the interior (albeit without flowers). And here, this symbolic object becomes a kind of link, accent, even the rhythm of the interior, if it is paired.
The vase is incredibly popular as a gift, and not only in the last millennium; they were brought to the Scythian rulers by their subordinate cities, they were given to the Roman emperors. And, as before, only some people can afford precious vases of gold and silver with gems; with stone vases, the situation has changed: now they are completely accessible to everyone, and with the advent of new minerals, the choice of color and pattern of the stone is almost unlimited. Charoite, the only deposit in the world located in Yakutia, has become a favorite stone for making vases. A classic charoite vase with a narrow-necked leg, the edge of which is bent outward, is in the collection of the Gems Gallery. In ancient Rome, only members of the upper class could afford such luxury. It is known that the Roman emperor of the 1st century Nero was very fond of stone vases and even collected them. Once, when one of the VAZs broke, he ordered to carefully preserve its fragments.
